Reading Commentatio means agreeing to a few ground rules. They are short, because the site asks little of you.
The classical works condensed here are out of copyright, and so are the translations they were built from. The condensations are not. Every essay on this site is an original composition — a set of choices about what to keep, what to cut, and how to say it in modern English — and it is copyrighted by its author.
So: read it, link to it, and quote it with attribution — all welcome. Republishing whole essays, scraping the archive into datasets or products, or passing the work off as your own is not. To syndicate or reuse something at length, ask first.
If what you want is the ancient text itself, take it and do as you like. It is public domain, every essay names the edition it came from, and none of it belongs to this publication.
Comments, reactions, poll votes, and wishlist entries remain yours; posting them grants this site the right to display them alongside the content they respond to. Keep it lawful, and aim at the argument rather than the person. Disagreeing with a condensation is welcome and is best done by naming the passage. The publisher may remove spam, abuse, and anything unlawful, and may block repeat offenders.
